Frequently Asked Questions

How does AI tarot work?

Three separate steps. First the deck is shuffled by the site's server using a random generator, and three cards are pulled — the AI has no say in which cards come out. Then those exact cards, their positions in the spread and whether each landed upright or reversed are handed to the AI along with your question. Finally the AI writes the interpretation, the same job a human reader does out loud, using traditional Rider-Waite meanings applied to what you actually asked.

How accurate are AI readings?

Mary's answer: as accurate as the honesty you bring to them. The draw is genuinely random, so the cards are as valid as any I'd pull across a table. The reading is accurate when your question is specific — "should I stay after what he did last month" gets you something real, "love?" gets you a horoscope. What an AI reading cannot do, and what I would never claim either, is guarantee an outcome. Tarot shows the shape of a situation, not a fixed future.

Does the AI pick the cards to fit a nice answer?

No. The cards are drawn before the AI is involved at all, and it is told what came up — including the difficult cards. That's why you'll sometimes get the Tower or the Three of Swords instead of a comfortable answer.

Will I get the same reading twice?

No. Ask the same question tomorrow and the shuffle produces a different draw, so the reading changes. That's the simplest test of any tarot app: if the cards never change, it isn't really reading them.

Is AI tarot better or worse than a human reader?

Mary's answer: it's different work. Shirley is there at three in the morning, privately, for the daily card and the everyday questions. When something big is breaking and you need a voice on the other end, you want a person — book me. Most people I read for use both, and that's exactly right.

Does the AI know anything about me?

Only what you type into the reading. There's no profile, no tracking of your love life, no secret file. Each question stands on its own unless you sign in and choose to save your readings.

Can AI tarot predict the future?

No, and neither can I. Tarot reflects where you are, what you're circling, and which choice you've been avoiding. Anyone promising you a dated, guaranteed prediction is selling something.

Is it safe to ask about something private?

Yes. Your question is used to write your reading and nothing else. There's no public feed, no sharing, and you don't need an account to get a reading.

Step one: the shuffle is random, not written

Every reading begins with a full 78-card deck — Major and Minor Arcana, reversals included. The server shuffles and pulls three cards for Past, Present and Future before a single word of interpretation exists. Nothing about your question influences which cards appear, which is exactly how a physical shuffle works.

Step two: your cards and your question go together

The AI receives the cards that were actually drawn, the position each one landed in, whether it came up reversed, and the question you wrote. Position matters: the Three of Swords in the Past is old grief, in the Future it's a warning to look at. That's why a stock card description is not a reading and a positional interpretation is.

Step three: the interpretation, in Mary's tradition

Shirley is written to read the way Mary reads — warm, plain-spoken, and honest about hard cards rather than sweetening them. No curses, no fear selling, no urgent warnings designed to get your card out. If a card is difficult, you're told what it's pointing at and what you can do about it.

Mary on how accurate AI readings really are

“People expect me to dismiss this, and I don't. The mechanics are honest: real shuffle, real reversals, your cards shown to you, a fresh draw every time. Where an AI reading gets thin is the same place a human one does — a vague question. Bring me one clear situation and a sentence of context and you'll get something you can use. And remember what no reader can honestly offer you: a guarantee. The cards show direction. The decision stays yours.”

How to judge any tarot app in thirty seconds

Ask it the same question twice — the cards must change. Check that it shows you what you actually drew, including reversals. See whether the answer refers to your situation or just recites the card. And walk away from anything that frightens you into paying: a curse to lift, a countdown, a warning about someone in your life. That is a sales tactic, not spirit.
